Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Her reporting included a number of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the budget and tax reform in addition to the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively along with the president Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
